Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (unbleached)
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ tsp)
- 1 cup warm milk (whole)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 2 large eggs (room temperature)
- 3 cups apples (peeled and chopped; Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ cup brown sugar
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and sugar; sprinkle yeast on top and let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes). Mix in melted butter, eggs, and half of the flour until smooth. Gradually add remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (approximately 1 hour).
- While dough rises, mix chopped apples with brown sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl.
- Roll out risen dough into a rectangle about half an inch thick. Evenly spread apple filling over the surface.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log shape; pinch edges to seal. Slice the log lengthwise to reveal the filling layers.
- Twist both halves together and place into a greased loaf pan. Cover and allow to rise again for about 30 minutes while preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for approximately 35 minutes until golden brown. Allow cooling slightly before slicing.
