- 2 medium sweet or yellow onions, sliced
- 4 slices American or Swiss cheese
- 4 tbsp butter
- 8 slices rye bread
Instructions
- Shape ground beef into four 1-inch-thick patties and season with salt and pepper.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp butter. Add onions and sauté until golden brown (10-15 minutes).
- Push onions aside, add another tbsp of butter, and cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side. Place cheese on top during the last minute.
- Butter one side of each slice of rye bread. Assemble sandwiches with patty, cheese, and onions between two slices of bread.
- Grill in the skillet for about 3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
