Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar recommended)
  • 1 cup diced ham or bacon

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm milk and sugar; sprinkle yeast on top and let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt; create a well in the center. Add melted butter and foamy yeast mixture, and stir until it forms a sticky dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for one hour until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the dough and roll into a rectangle. Sprinkle with cheese and ham; roll tightly into logs.
  5. Cut logs into one-inch pieces and place in greased baking pans. Let rise for another 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
