Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk room temperature
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 3 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Filling
  • 1 cup heavy cream chilled
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Frosting
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Prepare the Cake Base
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Make the Filling
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the chilled heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  2. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
Make the Frosting
  1. In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with milk, until you reach a smooth consistency.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Assemble the Cake
  1. Once the cake is completely cooled, slice it horizontally to create two layers.
  2. Spread the filling evenly over the bottom layer of the cake.
  3. Place the top layer of the cake back on, then frost the top and sides with the prepared frosting.
  4. Decorate as desired and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
